The village, itself, is a charming group of old sandstone cottages that cluster around the 13th Century cathedral with its associated bishop’s palace (now a hotel) and town jail (now an up-scale shop.) It sports sufficient hotels (5), bed and breakfasts and self-catering apartments to meet the needs of any Independent Golfer but not enough to support large-scale tourism. All the better for us!
Besides Scotland golf, visitors enjoy walks on Dornoch’s sandy beaches, view wildlife in the nearby National Nature Reserve, hear the Saturday evening outdoor concerts of the local Pipe Band, or even get married. (Madonna did!)
