Accommodations in Dornoch for Scotland golf

General Information for the Dornoch Hub

Clinging to the North Sea coast about one hour north of Inverness is the Royal Burgh of Dornoch. This would be a quiet, out-of-the-way home of under 2,500 folks if it was not also home to one of the very best golf courses in the world, the Royal Dornoch Championship Course. All who play Scotland golf agree that there is none better.

Aside from its own golf course, what makes the Village of Dornoch such a good candidate as a base for Independent golfers are the other only slightly less lustrous Scotland golf courses that are strung out up and down the coast. You will not find a better string of links-style golf courses open and eager for public play anyplace in the world.

The village, itself, is a charming group of old sandstone cottages that cluster around the 13th Century cathedral with its associated bishop’s palace (now a hotel) and town jail (now an up-scale shop.) It sports sufficient hotels (5), bed and breakfasts and self-catering apartments to meet the needs of any Independent Golfer but not enough to support large-scale tourism. All the better for us!

Besides Scotland golf, visitors enjoy walks on Dornoch’s sandy beaches, view wildlife in the nearby National Nature Reserve, hear the Saturday evening outdoor concerts of the local Pipe Band, or even get married. (Madonna did!)
