Flash! Good News for American Golfers!

The Cost of Golf in Scotland is Going Down!

A Scottish Golf Trip Has Gotten Very Affordable

The US Dollar Has Increased in Value Against the British Pound.

Last summer you needed over $2.00 to buy one British Pound. That made it quite expensive for Americans to travel in Scotland.

As of Dec. 1, 2008, the cost of one British Pound was $1.43, and dropping. Your American dollar buys over 25% more than it did last summer. Your cost of everything in Scotland is over 25% less, from food to drink to green fees, to lodging to car rental. Wow!

The UK lowered its tax (UK VAT) on all goods and services by 2.5%

This is another 2.5% less that EVERYTHING will cost you in Scotland.

On December 1, I received the following e-mail from Colin McLeod at the Carnoustie Golf Links:

As you may be aware, UK VAT has been reduced to 15% as of today. Accordingly, Carnoustie Golf Links are able to reduce our green fees for all bookings made from today.
With the exchange rate movements over the past year, my calculations show that a fourball on the Championship Course is about $250 or 100 Euros CHEAPER than it was a year ago!

This means that each American player in a group of four will pay $62.50 LESS to play at Carnoustie's Championship Course next summer than they would have last year. There will be comparable savings at most other courses in Scotland.

As the Cost of Jet Fuel Drops, So Does the Cost of Travel

Airlines are dropping the fuel surcharges they were charging when fuel was priced so high last summer. This reduced surcharge can trim up to 18% off the cost of a round trip ticket to Scotland.

Further, many airlines are initiating specials to attract trans-Atlantic travelers. For example, in January, Aerlingus (the Irish airlines) is offering round trip New York to London at $394.00.

Finally, to REALLY save money on your Scottish Golf Trip, DON't go with any tour service.

You will literally pay twice as much for the same trip compared to planning your own...and you'll enjoy it less if tied to a tour. To see why, Click Here
