"Reserving Accommodations for Your
Scotland Golf Trip"
(continued)
In every city and town in the country VisitScotland has offices that offer regional accommodation listings. For a small fee they will call ahead and book a place for you. VisitScotland offices all also stock two government publications that are quite helpful when seeking accommodations: Where to Stay: Bed and Breakfast and Where to Stay: Hotels and Guest Houses. Both are revised each year so be sure to get the one for your year.
Most Independent Golfers learn that it is, in fact, not necessary to book ahead for your Scotland golf vacation if you are willing to look around for a B&B or Guest House once you arrive. The only exceptions would be if you are traveling on national or bank holidays during which times accommodations become scarce or if you wanted a particular Resort Hotel or other popular accommodation.
The exception to the above is booking self-catering apartments or houses. These must be reserved well ahead of time as they are rented for the full week and are popular among vacationers from across the UK. The best way to do this is over the Internet. Typically, any area in which you want to base your golf trip will have a visitors’ web site. The Tourist Bureau also maintains a large website that covers the entire country. There are links to many such sites elsewhere in The Independent Golfer's website. Once on an accommodations website it is no trick to locate potential places under “Self-Catering.” An e-mail or telephone call will get you the availability information you need.
